Speaking to the media earlier in Tokyo, Japan’s Finance Ministry’s Undersecretary for International Affairs Masato Kanda said Japanese authorities are in close contact with U.S. Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen and other overseas authorities on currencies and the broader financial market almost every day.

Kanda’s comments are a direct reference to the intervention. Despite this, he just did basically nothing. But now it’s starting to rise.
