Boeing handed over 50 aircraft to customers last month, from 35 in Aprilalthough it is lagging rival Airbus in deliveries this year as the Paris Air Show approaches.
The deliveries included eight 787 Dreamliners. Boeing said a new last week manufacturing defect — the second released this year — will slow short-term deliveries of wide-body aircraft, which are in high demand due to a recovery in international travel.
Boeing delivered 206 planes this year 244 which Airbus delivered in the first five months of the year.
Both Boeing and Airbus have announced plans increase performance new aircraft to meet the strong demand as a result the Covid pandemic.
Arlington, Va.-based Boeing reported gross orders for 69 planes in May, up from 34 in April. After subtracting 11 cancellations, it sold 58 aircraft, most of them 737 Max.
The Paris Air Show begins Monday, when Boeing, Airbus and other aerospace manufacturers will meet with customers and potentially announce more new orders in the first in-person iteration of the event since before the pandemic.
